The cool winter breeze is here...
We might enjoy this pleasant weather, but did you know that for "Plants" (especially the tropical houseplants we love), this is actually the most critical and challenging time?
Many people mistakenly believe that "Dry Air = Load Up on Water."
However, the truth is that during winter, most plants enter a state of "Dormancy." Their growth slows down, and they absorb significantly less water. Sticking to the same watering routine you used during the rainy or summer seasons can turn into "Force-feeding Poison," leading to silent root rot and death.
Today, Thai Tissue has summarized the 5 Iron Rules for general plant care during winter to keep your green friends safe.

Rule #1: "Check" Before You "Pour" (The Finger Test)
Stop watering on a fixed schedule (e.g., every Monday) because air humidity levels fluctuate daily.
The Method: Poke your finger about 1-2 inches deep into the soil.
If the soil is still moist or feels cool to the touch: "Do Not Water Under Any Circumstances."
Water only when you feel the soil is completely dry.
Remember: In winter, fixing "Under-watering" is much faster and easier than fixing "Over-watering." Once root rot sets in, it is extremely difficult to save the plant.

Rule #2: Morning is the "Golden Hour"
The absolute best time to water during winter is in the "Morning" (06:00 - 09:00 AM). This allows sunlight and wind to help evaporate excess water throughout the day.
Strict Rule: "Never water in the evening or at night." Because the night air is cold and humid, water sitting on the leaves or at the base of the plant overnight will instantly turn into a breeding ground for fungus and bacteria.

Rule #3: Boost Humidity (The Humidity Hack)
Even though the roots drink less water, the "Leaves" still crave moisture. Winter air is often Dry, which can easily cause leaf edges to burn, turn crispy, or curl.
The Fix:
Use a Spray Bottle to mist a fine fog around the plants in the morning to increase air humidity.
Alternatively, place a cup of water next to the pots or arrange the plants in a Group. The natural evaporation will help create a humid micro-ecosystem for them.

Rule #4: Chase the Sunlight
In winter, the sun's angle shifts and days become shorter, meaning your indoor plants might not be getting enough light.
The Fix: Observe if the sunlight has disappeared from its usual spot. If so, move the pot closer to a window. Also, rotate the pot every week to ensure the plant receives light on all sides. This prevents the leaves from leaning or growing lopsided toward a single light source.

Rule #5: "Skip" the Fertilizer
As plant growth slows down, their need for nutrients decreases. Applying chemical fertilizers during winter can cause excessive salt buildup in the soil, leading to "Fertilizer Burn."
Recommendation: Hit pause on fertilizing for now. If it is absolutely necessary, use a very diluted formula or organic fertilizer instead. Wait until summer arrives to resume full nourishment.
Winter plant care is the art of "Observation."
Reduce the water, but increase your attention. By following these simple rules, your beloved plants will survive the cold season strongly and be ready to burst forth with beautiful new leaves to welcome the spring!
