In terms of form, Rotala rotundifolia 'Blood Red SG' is a stem aquatic plant that branches and changes leaf form between emersed and submerged growth; it belongs to the Lythraceae family. Its overall character is enhanced by pink, red, or copper tones that are especially visible on the tips and young leaves before changing as the leaves mature. Deep red tips become a clear focal point when light and nutrients are balanced. Differences between young and mature leaves are part of its appeal, and every leaf does not need to look the same. Its submerged form may differ from its emersed form, and leaf replacement after planting in an aquarium is a normal adjustment process for many aquatic plants.
For long-term cultivation, provide even light, balanced nutrients, and carbon dioxide according to the plant's needs, while trimming the tips to build a dense clump. Keep water quality stable, remove fallen leaves, and avoid changing several lighting or water parameters at once. It works well planted in groups to create blocks of color and fine rhythm in the midground to background.
