Philodendron 'Congo', also sold under the trade name Congo Green, is a self-heading philodendron that Chicago Botanic Garden describes as distinct from typical climbing forms. Its broad, dark-green leaves emerge from long petioles and arrange into a rounded clump, so it does not require a climbing pole. Plant references describe the leaves as large, thick, leathery, and glossy, with rapid branching that creates a full, dense form. It suits a principal foliage display where a strong mass of green is desired without long vines.
Place it in filtered light to bright shade and keep temperatures consistently warm. Chicago Botanic Garden notes that it adapts well to homes and offices and is not particularly demanding about soil. The pot should nevertheless drain well, and the growing medium should not be so compact that the roots lack air. Water thoroughly, then wait for excess moisture to decrease before watering again. Rotate the pot periodically so the clump receives light from all sides and remains balanced. Wipe the broad leaves gently to keep their glossy surface and even green color as the plant's main features.
