About trees
Musa (AA Group) 'Kluai Khai' is the Thai Kluai Khai banana, which ProMusa lists as a local name for the Sucrier subgroup, a cultivated diploid banana with the AA genome and Musa acuminata ancestry. This group is characterized by a relatively slender plant, long arching leaves, and small fruits arranged in hands. The fruits are suitable for eating when ripe. Kluai Khai does not refer to every banana with small fruit; it identifies a Sucrier-group lineage with a long cultivation history in Southeast Asia.
Grow it outdoors in full sun to partial-day sun, in fertile loamy soil that retains moisture without becoming waterlogged, with wind shelter to protect the leaves from tearing. Provide consistent water and nutrients while the banana is producing its pseudostem and new leaves. Leave enough room for the clump to produce suckers and thin them to a suitable number so they do not compete for nutrients. Support the plant when a bunch begins to develop if the site is windy. Height, fruiting time, and the number of hands depend on the clone, climate, and management, so assess them from a mother plant in the actual growing location.
