Malus domestica 'Fuji' gets its character from being a deciduous fruit tree in the Rosaceae family that produces branching shoots and flowers on wood of the appropriate age. Its selected-cultivar name distinguishes its horticultural character from the base species, while its mature color and form still depend on growing conditions. Young plants may not yet show their mature form, so assess them by observing continued growth rather than only their initial appearance. Leaf color, thickness, and size may change with the plant's age, light levels, and root health.
For long-term cultivation, provide full sun, well-drained soil, seasonal dormancy, and regular canopy pruning. Check the growing medium before every watering and avoid moving the plant abruptly from shade into intense sun. It suits orchards in areas whose climate meets its chilling requirements. Keeping the area around the base or clump clean and leaving room for air or water to move through will help new leaves unfurl fully and make the plant easier to maintain.
