The appeal of Ludwigia inclinata var. verticillata 'Curly' comes from its stem-aquatic habit, with leaf form and color responding to light and growing conditions. A key feature is that its submerged leaves twist around the stem in a spiral, creating a dynamic texture distinct from straight-leaved Ludwigia. Arranging it so that new growth and the front of the leaves are visible allows these changes to be appreciated fully. Its submerged form may differ from its emersed form, and leaf replacement after planting in an aquarium is a normal adjustment process for many aquatic plants.
Successful cultivation depends on consistent light, complete nutrients, and carbon dioxide according to the plant's needs, along with trimming and replanting the tips to build a dense clump. Keep water quality stable, remove fallen leaves, and avoid changing several lighting or water parameters at once. It works well as a color group in the midground or background, with enough space for light to reach the lower leaves. If the plant must be moved or its conditions changed, do so gradually and wait for new growth before assessing its final color and form.
