About trees

Homalomena rubescens 'Mint' is a tropical foliage Homalomena using the name Mint to distinguish this selection from other names within the H. rubescens group. It grows as a clump from the base and produces heart-shaped leaves on fleshy petioles, making it suitable as a potted plant in a warm location. Leaf color may change with light, age, roots, and nutrients, so keep growing conditions consistent and observe development across several new leaves. Keep the Mint label with the clump and every division so it is not mixed with similarly named Homalomena.

Use an airy growing medium containing organic matter and retaining moderate moisture. Place it in bright filtered light, water when the surface begins to dry, and drain away excess water. Do not leave the roots standing in water or allow the clump to become so dry that it wilts. Maintain humidity together with good air movement, avoiding air-conditioning drafts and direct sun. Apply diluted fertilizer only while new shoots are developing. Rotate the pot periodically for even light, wipe the leaves gently, and check around the petioles for pests. When dividing the clump, use clean tools, choose a pot that fits the roots, and label each new division Mint immediately.
