Gymnocalycium 'Dinosaur' is a trade name for a cactus in the genus Gymnocalycium whose exact species has not been confirmed. Members of this group are often round or short-cylindrical, with ribs divided into tubercles and spines arranged at intervals. Flowers develop near the crown once the plant reaches maturity. Dinosaur is used to distinguish a market selection and should not be interpreted as a formally recognized botanical cultivar name. Rib form, skin color, and spines may vary with the individual plant and growing conditions. Examining the actual plant's crown symmetry, firm skin, and healthy roots provides more information than relying on a single sample photograph.
Provide bright light, increasing sun exposure gradually. Use an airy growing medium containing mineral material and draining quickly. Water only when the medium is dry deep down, then allow all excess water to drain away. During cool weather or slow growth, leave longer intervals between waterings to prevent root rot.
