Bucephalandra 'Mini Raw' gets its character from being an epiphytic aquatic plant from Borneo, with a creeping rhizome and leaves that vary in shape and color sheen; it belongs to the Araceae family. The trade name suggests a compact form, but leaf shape and color should be assessed from the established plant in the aquarium. Differences between young and mature leaves are part of its appeal, and every leaf does not need to look the same. Its submerged form may differ from its emersed form, and leaf replacement after planting in an aquarium is a normal adjustment process for many aquatic plants.
For balanced growth, attach it to rock or wood without burying the rhizome, keep the water stable, and provide a suitable current. Remove fallen leaves and avoid changing several lighting or water parameters at once. It works well as a detail on foreground and midground hardscape, allowing time for the clump to establish gradually. Use actual growth as your guide, adjusting light, water, and nutrients gradually to maintain the desired form.
