Bucephalandra 'Brownie Ghost' gets its character from being an epiphytic aquatic plant from Borneo, with a creeping rhizome and leaves that vary in shape and color sheen; it belongs to the Araceae family. For display, its dark foliage makes the veins and surface texture stand out when viewed up close. Young leaves may show reddish-brown to bluish-purple tones and silver speckles on the dark surface. Leaving enough space between shoots makes the form easier to appreciate and prevents overlap. Its submerged form may differ from its emersed form, and leaf replacement after planting in an aquarium is a normal adjustment process for many aquatic plants.
Begin care by attaching it to rock or wood without burying the rhizome, keeping the water stable, and providing a suitable current. Remove fallen leaves and avoid changing several lighting or water parameters at once. It works well as a detail on foreground and midground hardscape, allowing time for the clump to establish gradually. Keeping the area around the base or clump clean and leaving room for air or water to move through will help new leaves unfurl fully and make the plant easier to maintain.
