Alocasia reginula 'Black Velvet' belongs to the Araceae family and is a rhizomatous or tuberous herbaceous plant with prominent leaves held on petioles and clearly visible veins. Its distinctive feature is that the dark foliage makes the veins and surface texture stand out when viewed up close. The dark, velvety leaves and pale veins create strong contrast even in a compact clump.
